on Carnival Saturday, February 6, 2027, the traditional Ball of Legal Professionals will once again open its doors at the imperial Hofburg Vienna under this legendary theme
“DANCING QUEEN – THE DANCING MUSE”
This evening will celebrate both the 50th anniversary of ABBA – THE ALBUM and the 200th birthday of Josef Strauss with his “Dancing Muse”.
The Juristenverband welcomes you to a night full of elegance, music, dance, and unforgettable moments, and the upcoming ball promises a program that leaves nothing to be desired.
An opening ceremony with a grand operetta tradition
The procession of the guests of honor is an established part of the traditional opening, which, as always, is directed by Prof. Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer. In addition to the traditional polonaise and waltzes, the Young Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Committee will perform a new arrangement of the polka-mazurka “Die tanzende Muse” (op. 266) by Josef Strauss, whose 200th birthday will be celebrated in 2027.

The Ball of Legal Professionals is one of the most traditional events of the Viennese ball season. In the magnificent halls of the Hofburg, lawyers, companions and friends from Austria and abroad meet for an evening of elegance, exchange and shared joy in dance.

From the traditional procession to the late-night clubbing – Viennese ball tradition at its finest.
Festive Opening
Ball opening by the opening committee under the direction of Prof. Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer, procession of the guests of honor, opening performance, addresses and opening words, waltz formation by Tanzschule Elmayer and the opening committee, “Alles Walzer”.
Midnight Show
A musical highlight with renowned artists – a new highlight every year.
Justizclubbing DeLuxe
The clubbing in the Forum starts at 9:30 PM – DJs and a vibrant atmosphere until the early morning hours.
Opening Committee
Debut at the Ball of Legal Professionals
The ball traditionally opens with the procession of the opening committee. Debutantes are warmly invited to be part of this special moment.
The opening choreography is created and rehearsed under the direction of Prof. Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer. Good knowledge of the Viennese waltz (left-turning waltz) is required. A successful debut also calls for a festive outfit (a snow-white ball gown, or a tailcoat or dinner jacket) and timely registration.

Located in the heart of Vienna, the Hofburg has been a stage for historic moments for centuries. The Ball of Legal Professionals takes place in the magnificent halls of the former imperial palace – with the Festsaal, Zeremoniensaal and numerous other halls across several floors.
